We believe the time is right for positive innovation because the world appears ever more dangerous, divided and unhappy. We need more happiness in the world.

So we’ve distilled the top insights from ‘positive psychology’ (the science of human happiness and wellbeing) and ‘positive design’ (design that facilities wellbeing) into a set of brainstorming cards for innovation to you develop new products and services that promote human happiness.

Our cards are designed to offer positive inspiration for positive innovation. Each card contains one positive insight with an explanation, evidence and a real-world example.

Feel free to use them, adapt them, and share them as you like.

Here’s a simple team-brainstorming exercise to get you started.

  1. Split your team into pairs or small groups. Each person chooses selects one positive insight cards from the deck that inspires them and that they feel may be relevant to their innovation challenge
  2. For each of the chosen positive insight cards, brainstorm a list of examples (products and services) that build on this insight.  Think both within and beyond your category. We’ve given a starter example on each card.
  3. Select the one positive insight card that seems the most promising for your innovation challenge. Using the real-world examples as inspiration, brainstorm a list of product or service innovation or improvements for your business
  4. Share your top ideas with the team. You should now have a wealth of positive innovation ideas – some easy fixes, some more far reaching. Your challenge now is to select the ones that will have the most positive impact on your customers and your business!
