This privacy policy sets out who we are, how we use and protect any information that you give us when you use this website, if you are the subject of any of the personal data concerned, what rights you have and how to get in touch with us if you need to.
Who are we?
We are Brand Genetics. Our contact and other details are set out at the end of this policy. We are the controller in relation to the personal data processed in accordance with this policy (except where this policy explains otherwise).
Brand Genetics is committed to ensuring that your privacy is protected. Should we ask you to provide certain information by which you can be identified when using this website, then you can be assured that it will only be used in accordance with this privacy statement.
What we collect
We collect your data if you consent to being a participant in one of our market research projects. Please see below to see what sort of personal data we might process.
Please read this policy in order to make sure that you are happy with it and agree with it. We can only process your data by “consent”, participation in the project is entirely voluntary but, if you do continue with the project, then we will take it to mean that you agree with the terms of the policy. If you are not happy with the terms of this policy, then you should not participate in the project – or if at any time you wish to withdraw your consent to our processing your personal data, and if so, please use the contact details below.
Why do we carry out projects, and where did we get your details?
We carry out projects for clients. We get your contact details by either:
- You already have a relationship with our client, either as an employee or a customer in which case they have given us your details
- Or we have obtained your details from a third party, such as a market research recruiter or panel company.
What personal data & why we collect it relation to our projects?
We collect personal data from you for a couple of reasons:
- When we survey you and only seek relevant data for that project. You can usually skip any questions if you wish to, unless the question is essential in order for us to carry out the project.
- For market research purposes, such as looking at results and producing reports for our clients.
- To help you while you participate in our projects.
- To provide an enriched report for our clients with real life people giving their views.
If we collect sensitive information such as gender, race/ethnicity, sexual orientation, we are doing so only to split the data into categories, we do not wish to identify you individually.
Unless we state in the intro and ask your consent – we report in aggregated, anonymous form – so you will not be personally identifiable.
If the research involves video / photos or we want to share your personal data with our client in other ways than in this policy, we always explain and ask consent at the start of the survey.
Do we share your personal data with anyone else?
We only share your personal data with other third parties if they are supporting us for our market research services. For example, we might use research partners to collect your opinions and they usually send us only aggregated anonymised data. We contract the third party, and ensure you are protected against unauthorised use or disclosure and the third party can only use this personal data only how we say they should. Some of these services will also have Privacy notices which you should read and possibly agree to before taking part in research – such as when we are Processors for other companies.
Where do we process personal data?
We generally store and process your data within the European Economic Area (EEA). Where this is not the case, for some support services or by staff situated outside the EEA who work for us or for one of our suppliers, we will take all steps reasonably necessary to ensure that it is subject to appropriate safeguards, such as relying on a recognised legal adequacy mechanism.
How long do we process personal data for?
We process personal data only for so long as is necessary for the purpose(s) for which it was originally collected, after which it will be deleted or archived unless we need to process it for the purpose of compliance with legal obligations to which we are subject or for another legitimate and lawful purpose.
Security
We are committed to ensuring that your information is secure. In order to prevent unauthorised access or disclosure, we have put in place suitable physical, electronic and managerial procedures to safeguard and secure the information we collect online. We have Information security policies and procedures that ensure data is managed safely.
Controlling your personal information – your rights
You may choose to restrict the collection or use of your personal information in the following way:

- In certain circumstances (normally where it is no longer necessary for us to continue to process it), you may be entitled to request that we erase the personal data concerned.
- Where we are processing personal data relating to you on the basis of your prior consent to that processing, you may withdraw your consent, after which we shall stop the processing concerned.
